New Friend #1: Vaughn, the son of one of my co-workers. Allegedly, they hold hands a LOT during preschool. We went to the park recently and watched the relationship unfold for ourselves: Love and hate. They made each other laugh and cry. This particular moment featured happens to be a laugh moment. The one before and after were both cry moments.
In an additional side note, Vaughn's Grandmother loves to watch their online video monitoring system at preschool (and by "loves" I mean watches it every minute of the day) so it's fun to get updates on their growing relationships from someone who's seeing it first hand.
New Friend #2: Grass. Violet has hated grass from day one. She hated the way it felt under her feet and hands, and would prefer (even as an 11 month old child) to crawl on our rock/gravel yard than to be on the soft grass.
The other day at the park, she watched other kids rolling down the hills with more than a little bit of envy. Interested, she allowed me to remove her shoes and gingerly took some steps in the grass. The first few rolls were awkward and slow but then she nailed it... I fore-see lots of hill rolling in her future.
New Friend #3: Avery, the daughter of a friend (and the sister of one of Daniel's friends... very convenient!) She is younger than Violet, but recently joined her classroom at school. As they both have older brothers, they both like to "play tough" and have become fast playmates. (Violet typically runs with the bigger kids, so it's interesting to see her playing with someone smaller... it takes a lot to make Violet look like a big kid!) This photo is from a recent play date where the girls spent a large chunk of the time sweeping Avery's back porch with mini-brooms... and loving it!
At night, one of the songs in our nighttime routine is "Daisy, Daisy". We do verse one with "Daisy", verse two with "Harry" (as written), verse three with "Violet" (a version I made up) and now Violet INSISTS on a verse four with "A-vy, A-vy".
New friends are always a fun thing!
